Danny Glover is an actor, director, producer, and activist whose decades-long career has blended powerful screen performances with sustained social and political engagement.

Born July 22, 1946 in San Francisco, Glover grew up in a family dedicated to the postal service and actively involved in the NAACP. He attended George Washington High School and later enrolled at San Francisco State University, where he participated in the pivotal 1968 student strike that led to the establishment of the College of Ethnic Studies. He also trained at the Black Actors’ Workshop of the American Conservatory Theater before embarking on a professional acting career.

Glover’s impressive resume includes groundbreaking film roles in Places in the Heart, The Color Purple, Witness, Lethal Weapon, and To Sleep with Anger. On television, he portrayed Nelson Mandela in the HBO film Mandela.
